PARKonversations Live!: State of the IPs in the Philippines

Did you know that according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (2020), there are 9.84 million Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the 108.67 million household population?

The Philippines is home to a wide range of indigenous groups, often known as Indigenous Peoples. These communities have rich cultures, languages, traditions, and beliefs that are deeply rooted in their history and way of life. In celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Month this October, let’s get to know how we can help in the preservation and promotion of our nation’s rich and diverse cultures.

This PARKonversations Live! session titled “State of the IPs in the Philippines” will take place at the Mabini Hall, Rizal Park Luneta on 16 October 2023 (Monday), 2:30 p.m. Our guest speaker is Ms. Michelle Angeli E. Lapiz, an experienced researcher in environmental science, forestry, blue economy, gender, and development, with expertise in sustainable consumption and production and standards, notably ecolabelling. She is also an advocate for combating climate change and supports the protection of the Indigenous Peoples’ rights.

See you in Rizal Park Luneta!

PARKonversations is the first online educational project of the agency born at the height of COVID-19 pandemic, when travels and movements were restricted and lockdowns seemed to be endless. At that time, the project aimed to convey to the virtual public the importance of open spaces, especially parks, in one’s general well-being and wellness.

The project has already covered various topics related to nature, arts, history, culture, and anything under the sun! This year, in celebration of the agency’s 60th Founding Anniversary, PARKonversations will take its new form as it transitions from a virtual talk/seminar to a physical one.
